For this brief we had to create two pieces of packaging – one budget, one premium. I was given the product, manuka honey. My budget packaging centered around the theme of eyecatching Maori patterns, alluding to the indigenous population of New Zealand (from where manuka honey originates.) I chose to design a plastic squeezy bottle for cost efficiency.
Research led me to discover that manuka honey contains many healing properties, so for my premium packaging, this was the aim of the design; to create smaller units, so that the product would not deteriorate before it is used up, since you only require small quantities. I designed futuristic, bespoke, interlocking jars as this would enhance their appeal when competing on the shelf and also help to utilise the available space.
